The largest draw in Express Entry history
The February 19, 2020 draw is the largest draw in the history of Express Entry with a total of 4,500 invitations to apply (ITAs) being issued. In the previous draw on February 5, only 3,500 ITAs were issued, marking an increase of 1,000 ITAs.
The number of ITAs issued in each draw is a significant factor in the CRS score cut-off, as a higher number of ITAs will allow more candidates to be pulled from the pool, often resulting in a lower score. While we cannot predict whether IRCC will continue issuing high numbers of ITAs in future draws, the February 19 round could be the first in a series that could drive the CRS cut-off into the 460s.
Will the CRS score go below 450 in 2020?
The CRS score cut-off is dependent on a number of different variables, so it is impossible to predict with 100 percent accuracy how the score may change in future draws.
The two most notable pieces of data impacting the current CRS score cut-off are:
- The total number of candidates in the Express Entry pool: 144,042 as of February 14, 2020.
- The total number candidates in the pool with a score ranging from 451-600: 21,116 as of February 14, 2020.
Both of these numbers are at record-high levels, showing that Express Entry is more popular than ever. The popularity of the program is resulting in an increase of candidates in the competitive range which is driving the CRS score cut-off upward.
