Canada Express Entry Draws To Target 82 Occupations In 5 Fields Starting In Summer 2023
New Targeted Express Entry Draws: List Of Eligible NOC Codes: IRCC has recently introduced a new category-based selection for candidates in Express Entry programs. This announcement comes almost a year after the passing of Bill-C19 granting the immigration minister the authority to invite Express Entry candidates with specific attributes that support Canada’s economic goals. While targeted draws were anticipated this year, the official selection criteria had not been disclosed by IRCC until now.
In light of this development, here are answers to some important questions that Express Entry candidates may have regarding the new selection categories:
Who is eligible?
Express Entry candidates will be eligible for the new draw categories if they have work experience in the following fields:
- Competent French language proficiency (at least NCLC 7 in reading, writing, listening, and speaking) or
- work experience in the following fields:
- Healthcare.
- STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics professions.
- Trades, such as plumbers, carpenters, and contractors.
- Transport such as Transport truck drivers, Deck officers, and managers in Transportation.
- about agriculture and agri-food including Agricultural service contractors, Butchers.
When will the targeted draws start?
Targeted draws under the new categories are scheduled to begin later this summer, although an exact date has not been provided yet.
Do I still need an Express Entry profile if I work in one of the eligible occupations?
Yes, candidates must still meet the eligibility criteria for an Express Entry managed program. The eligible programs include the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Will the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) no longer be considered in Express Entry?
The candidate’s CRS score will still be relevant for Express Entry draws. IRCC will continue to hold draws where candidates are invited without reference to the new categories. This can include all-program draws or program-specific draws.
Do I just need 6 months of experience to be eligible for the new Express Entry targeted draws?
No, you must have at least one year (30 x 52 weeks = 1560 hours) of work experience in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupations to be eligible for any Express Entry program.
If you worked in any of the 82 targeted occupations for at least 6 months in the last three years, then you would qualify to be considered in one of the targeted Express Entry round of invitations.
How would CRS score be affected by targeted Express Entry draws?
It is expected that CRS cutoff score will drop for the Express Entry profiles having experience in one of the targeted occupations/NOC codes.
However, CRS cutoff score will increase for profiles not included in targeted occupations/NOC codes.
