The AINP consists of the following immigration streams:
- Alberta Opportunity Stream
- Alberta Express Entry Stream
- Alberta Self-Employed Farmer Stream
NOTE: The Strategic Recruitment Stream and Employer-Driven Stream were terminated on June 14, 2018.
Alberta Opportunity Stream
This stream allows individuals who meet the stream’s minimum eligibility requirements and are working in Alberta in an eligible occupation to apply for an AINP provincial nomination.
Alberta Express Entry Stream
This stream allows the Government of Alberta to nominate eligible candidates from Canada’s Express Entry system. A successful nomination under this stream results in 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System points.
Self-Employed Farmer Stream
This stream allows individuals with farming experience and personal funds to purchase and develop a farm in Alberta to apply for permanent residence. Successful applicants are farm owners/operators who plan to live in Alberta in order to purchase and manage their farming business.
Effective June 14, 2018, Express Entry candidates looking to settle in Alberta have been able to pursue a provincial nomination under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) under the new AINP Express Entry stream.
The latest data, made available in May, 2019, shows that Express Entry candidates with CRS scores as low as 300 have been invited to apply for provincial nomination under the Alberta Express Entry stream. A total of 3,357 invitations have been issued so far in 2019.

Alberta Express Entry Stream
In late 2017, Alberta announced its Provincial Nomination Program Routes, the criteria for which were released on 14th June, 2018.
The Alberts PNP routes introduced were:
1. Alberta Express Entry: Candidates with active profiles in the Federal Express Entry system
2. Alberta Opportunity streams: Candidates who are working in Alberta at the time of Application

ALBERTA EXPRESS ENTRY
The Alberta Express Entry stream is aligned with the federal Express Entry system. In order to be considered for the Alberta PNP stream, a candidate must already have an active profile in one of the three Express Entry aligned programs: Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, or Canadian Experience Class.
Alberta will automatically consider profiles in the federal Express Entry pool. Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AINP) will directly contact candidates whose profiles are of interest and will invite them to apply for the AINP Express Entry stream. While the exact selection criteria are unknown, AINP states that it will seek candidates who demonstrate strong ties to Alberta and who can support regional economic development and diversification.
It should be noted that in order to be considered by AINP, candidates must indicate Alberta as a province of interest in their Express Entry profile.
Once a candidate is notified by AINP, they may submit an official PNP application to the province. If this application is approved, the candidate will receive a provincial nomination, resulting in a 600 point increase to their Express Entry CRS score. This means that the candidate will be virtually guaranteed an official Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in the next Express Entry Draw.
